A Complete Maintenance Guide

Preserve the quality of your tools and enjoy perfect matcha every time.

Bamboo Whisk (Chasen 茶筅)

After Use:  

  • Rinse immediately under warm water to remove matcha residue.  
  • Gently shake off water and air-dry upright in a well-ventilated area (never leave it wet in a closed container).  

Deep Clean:

  • Once a month, soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.  
    Storage: 
  • Use a chasen holder to maintain its shape, or store in a dry bamboo/ceramic stand.  
  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent bamboo from cracking.  

⚠️ Avoid:  

  • Boiling water (weakens bamboo fibers)  
  • Dishwashers or harsh scrubbing  

Matcha Bowl (Chawan 茶碗)

Material-Specific Care:  

  • Ceramic/Clay/Glass Bowls**: Handwash with soft sponge and mild soap. Air-dry completely.  

Wooden Bowls: Wipe with damp cloth; season with food-safe mineral oil annually. 


Stain Removal:  

  • Use baking soda paste for stubborn matcha stains.  
  • For mineral buildup (white spots), soak in 1:1 vinegar-water solution for 10 minutes.  

Matcha Scoop (Chashaku 茶杓)

Cleaning: 

  • Wipe with a dry microfiber cloth after each use.  
  • For residue, lightly dampen cloth with water (do not soak).  


Storage:

  •   Keep in a dry pouch or dedicated compartment to prevent warping or moldy.

Matcha Powder Storage:
Ideal Conditions:  

  • Airtight container (tin/canister with rubber seal)  
  • Cool (≤68°F/20°C), dark place (e.g., pantry, not fridge)  
  • Avoid humidity, heat, and strong odors  


Shelf Life:  

  • Unopened: 12 months  
  • Opened: Consume within 2-3 months for peak freshness

Long-Term Maintenance Tips 


Seasonal Care: 

  • In humid climates, store bamboo tools with silica gel packets.  
  • Winter: Keep bowls away from heaters to prevent cracking.

  • Bamboo Whisk: Soak in cold water for 5 mins before use if bristles stiffen.
